  • Steel columns: The most important part of the steel structure is that it supports the overall structure.
  • Rafters/frame beams: The steel structural beams are used to support what we call the roof.
  • Haunch/knee brace section: At the junction of steel beams and steel columns, it is used to increase load-bearing capacity and enhance rigidity.
  • Ridge connection/ridge joint: It is typically used at the joints of arched or gabled roofs to ensure continuity of stress.
  • End-wall frame: The wall is bordered on both sides.

Main Framework Installation Process

Main Bracing System

In portal frame buildings, bracing and tie systems are sometimes classified as secondary steelwork, but in practice they are crucial to whether the structure can stand stably in three-dimensional space and are often treated as part of the primary structural system. 

  • Column bracing: provides vertical (in-plane) bracing between selected column lines, typically using X-bracing or single diagonal bracing to resist longitudinal lateral forces on the building.
  • Roof bracing: arranged in the roof plane and transmits these longitudinal forces from the rafters to a braced bay or the building ends.
  • Tie members : such as roof ties (roof horizontal ties) and longitudinal ties, link multiple frames together and complete the force-transfer path in combination with the bracing system. 
  • Gusset plates and high-strength boltsthe key connections between the bracing/tie members and the portal frames, ensuring that forces are reliably transferred and the overall frame remains stable.
